Integrate BitDefender Free Edition v10 with ALZip

This set of directions will work when the new fix for ALZip comes out.

Integrate the protection and security of your anti-virus program with ALZip to make archiving, compressing, extracting, even safer than ever. There are many anti-virus programs on the market, and each of them need to be configured specifically for the program that you are using. This does not make it easier for the average computer user, but hopefully this guide will point you in the right direction.

The directions below are for integrating BitDefender Free Edition v10, which is a freeware program developed by Softwin. The outline is meant to be a guide. Additional steps may be necessary depending on your computer configuration.

This method of integrating BitDefender Free Edition v10 with ALZip is for the command-line utility(bdc.exe). More information regarding parameter usage can be gathered at the BitDefender forums (http://forum.bitdefender.com/) or by typing the bdc /? command when using the command-line utility.

Command-line (Console) Method

To configure ALZip for the command-line method, follow these steps:

  • In the main menubar in ALZip, go to Tools > Preferences, or press the F4 key.
  • Click on the Programs tab.
  • Click on the folder icon in the Virus Scanner section.

  • Browse to the "Program FilesCommon FilesSoftwinBitDefender Scan Server" folder.
  • Select bdc.exe
  • Click the Open button

  • Your preferences window will look like the figure below.
  • In the Parameters field, type {dir} /prompt /log=bitdefender.log
Note: the /prompt parameter prompts for a user action when a virus has been detected; the /log parameter creates a log file with the scan results in the same directory that bdc.exe is located.
  • Click the OK button.

Now ALZip is configured for the command-line method. To scan any archive or compressed file for viruses using BitDefender Free Edition v10, follow these steps:

  • In the main menubar in ALZip, go to Actions > Scan Archive for Viruses

  • The command-line utility will appear and automatically scan the contents of your compressed file for any viruses. Please be sure to have up-to-date virus definitions to catch the latest threats. The BitDefender Free Edition v10 program will appear and display the results of your scan.

If no virus is detected.the command-line utility will disappear.

If a virus is detected, the command-line utility will prompt you for an action.
NOTE: Exit ALZip and follow the directions given by Norton AntiVirus. Additional user action will be required to neutralize the threat from the original archive file. Use the main graphical user interface to neutralize the threat.
