RedSteel Skin
This is a skin for ALShow that changes a few things here and there. No real big changes but I think some people will like it over the default. This skin was last updated for ALShow version 1.7 and for the english language.

-changed most blue things to red
-changed the way the bars are shaded
-custom designed slider bars
-custom/edited dancing egg guy animation (does he have a name?)
-when window is not clicked, the egg in the pic in the upper left of the screen goes to sleep (ya, my idea)

Here is a preview of the skin

And you can download it here:
>>>Download

To install the skin once you have downloaded it, simply drop the .ask file into the ALShow/skins/English folder. Then open Alshow and go to Screen>Skins>RedSteel

Anyways,
Enjoy

Hello OutlawCecil,

Thanks for the Red Steel Skin.

Sleeping egg is a good idea. And I like the dancing egghead♬. He is really cute!

I agree that people will like making skin and using more skins. I will put it in the wish list.

Regards,

Heejin

I don't suppose you guys have any good easy-to-use tools for editing the xml pages or anything do you? I didn't want to mess with anything there in the fear that I'd screw something up and have to start all over. You guys just use notepad or something?

Hello OutlawCecil,

You can use notepad. If you want more that than I would recommand you EditPlus.

It's an editing program you can download here.

It's shareware and you will be able to use trial version for 30 days.

Thank you for the interest.

Heejin

Hello,

When I translate the original Korean skins into English, I use Editplus. I wrote up some information on ALShow skins here, and there's a video tutorial on ALSong skins using Editplus here. The video shows how to get things done really quickly for the translation, but not for repositioning controls and the like.

The XML doesn't actually need to be well-formed (gasp! cringe!), but that's just to give some flexibility to novices. Yes - I know - I'm a purist with XML as well and generally try to make the XML well-formed for the English skins if time allows. But just so that you know - you can skip the quotes for things like numbers for positions, but obviously not for the mouse-over text where there is a space in it.

However, there is a skin maker for ALSong. But it's only in Korean - not in English yet. Also, it's only in beta and continuously being updated, so it's going to be a while before we can make it available in English. Just for interest sake, here's a quick screen shot:

ALSong Skin Maker v0.83 beta

Which turns out something like this in the preview:

ALSong Skin Maker v0.83 beta

The image is just one of the default images that comes with Windows XP. You can use any photo that you like.

For what you see above, you can whip up a skin in under a minute if you want.

However, for the moment with ALShow, the only way to do things is manually.

I wrote a simple utility to help me measure things when I do translations or skin work but I've only ever released it at DonationCoder (I haven't even released it at my own site). It's ever so cleverly named "Floating Ruler" and it's basically just a set of guides. One of these days I plan to give it some attention and add in some better functionality and flexibility, but for now it works. Feel free to use it if it helps.

Regards,

Ryan

Ok fyi to you all, I noticed the files I didn't include were for fullscreen mode so I'm calling the old version "lite" because of the small file size and now I've uploaded a "full" version that also has fullscreen menus.

Excellent! Thank-you for uploading that! I've gone and posted that on the ALShow skins page as well!

So are there only basically two skins besides the default skin for ALShow in English? Orange or Red? Will "Download skins" ever be available instead of grayed out?

Hello,

Yes - just 2 in English at the moment.

Once we have more skins available, and the downloader setup, then the menu item will be enabled. For the moment it's only enabled in the Korean version. The same pretty much goes for ALSong as well. The Korean version of ALSong has a lot of skins available.

Regards,

Ryan

ya I felt bad there wasn't a choice which is why i made RedSteel. At least now there are 2 to choose from. Would be cool if each skin had the lil egg guy doing something different when playing a music file.

P.s. If anybody translates that skin making program, I'll go on a wild skin making craze for a while. Would be fun.

Hello again!

It's still going to be a bit before we get to translating the skin maker... I'll try to put pressure on the ALSong PM though.

Ryan

1 year later...

I noticed my links died so I fixed them. I also worked on the skin a bit more so the link is an updated version. Can somebody update the version on the official alshow skins page to this one?

I'm also still watching for the skins editor to be translated and released. Would be nice to have more then 3 skins to choose from and editing the files free-hand is a bit time consuming...

Thanks.
