Import Login Database Files (Restore
a backup)
|
|
If you
install ALPass on a new system, you can import all of your encrypted login
data instead of re-entering everything. You can also restore backups this
way.
- Click the Import radio button option and click Next.
- Browse to the encrypted login database file and click Open. (It will
have an *.apw or *.apw.bak file extension.)
- Enter the encrypted login database's password and click Next.
Once the data is successfully imported, you are notified. Click Finish.
|
|
Export Login Databases (Backups)
|
|
You can
export your encrypted login database to back it up or to import it into
ALPass on another computer.
- Click the Export radio button option and click Next.
- Click the ellipsis (3 dots) browse button to browse to the directory
that you want to save the new backup file.
- Enter a file name for the encrypted login database.
- Enter the user password.
- If you wish to have a new password for the backup, enter and confirm
the new password.

|
Exporting Microsoft Excel Files (XLS)
|
|
You can
save your encrypted login database as a tab delimited Microsoft Excel file
(XLS). You can easily view it nicely formatted in rows and columns with
any spread sheet program like Microsoft Excel, Corel Quattro Pro, Lotus
123, OpenOffice Spreadsheet, or StarOffice Calc. It can also be opened with
any text editor (like Notepad) or word processor (like Word or Word Pad).
The new file is NOT encrypted.
- Choose the Save as Text radio button option and click Next.
- Click the ellipsis (3 dots) to browse to the directory where you want
to save the file.
- Type in a new file name.
- Enter the current encrypted login database password and click Next.
- If you do not want the passwords saved, ensure the check box is checked
and the passwords will be masked with asterisks.
CAUTION: ALPass encrypted login databases
use 3DES encryption, but the exported XLS text files from ALPass do not
have any encryption, so anyone can open and view them. You should mask
passwords unless you absolutely need them. When deleting a plain text
password file, press <Shift + Del> to delete it permanently and
not send it to the recycle bin.
