Be your own internet web radio DJ with ALSong.
Broadcast with ALSong
1. Click [File] - [Web Radio] > [Broadcast Web Radio].

2. Set Input/Output Settings and Brodadcast Sound Levels on the [SHOUTcast] tab.

Broadcast Server: This is the server which broadcasts your web radio station.
Broadcast Format: This shows what format you are broadcasting: Wave/Mic or ALSong Output.
Broadcast Quality: This shows the current broadcast quality as chosen in the [Input/Output Settings].
Input/Output Settings: Choose what to play and the quality of your radio station.
- Input Device - Choose an input device for your radio station (ALSong or a sound card). If you're playing back music from a single source, you can choose "ALSong Output" to play exactly what you hear in ALSong. Choose a different device (a sound card) if you want to do commentary with a mic.
- Sound Sources - If you're using your sound card as the input instead of ALSong, choose a combination of mic and wave output from the drop down menu.
- Sound Quality - Choose an audio quality setting. All settings refer to regular MP3 settings. Available choices include:
48kbps, 44,100Hz mono
56kbps, 44,100Hz mono
64kbps, 44,100Hz mono
80kbps, 44,100Hz mono
96kbps, 44,100Hz mono
112kbps, 44,100Hz mono
128kbps, 44,100Hz mono
96kbps, 44,100Hz stereo
112kbps, 44,100Hz stereo
128kbps, 44,100Hz stereo
Note that if you have some splash audio (IntroFile) or backup audio file (BackupFile) on your server then you MUST select the same quality as that file or your listeners will get an ear full of nothing or static nastiness. (i.e. The same samplerate, bitrate, and mono/stereo)
Broadcast Sound Levels: This section lets you control volumes and mic usage.
- Wave Volume - This corresponds to the "Stream Title" or "Stream name" in a web radio server. Sometimes this will be formatted.
- Mic Volume - This may be the streaming file name ("listen.pls" by default) or an address to your web site, depending on the web radio server or client displaying it. Leaving it blank or checking Auto will display an ALTools address. Remember that your mic must not be muted in Recording Volume.
- Audio Controls - The audio controls let you adjust hardware (sound card) settings. It is only available when you have your sound card selected as the Input Device in the [Input/Output Settings]..
Volume Control: Click this to open the playback volume controls for your sound card.
Recording Control: Click this to open the recording volume controls for your sound card.
Volume Optimization: Click this to automatically adjust volume levels for the music and mic.
- Toggle Mic On/Off - When ALSong Output is selected as the input device on the settings tab, this lets you stop streaming music from ALSong and use your mic instead. This is ideal if you want commentary or background music. Toggling the mic on will pause whatever music is currently playing.
3. Set Broadcast Server Settings and Broadcast Info on the [Settings] tab.

Broadcast Server Settings: Enter your SHOUTcast server information along with your password to connect to your.
- Server URL - Set your SHOUTcast server URL. For a default SHOUTcast server this would look like:
GOOD: www.myserver.com
GOOD: 123.123.123.123
BAD: http://www.myserver.com
BAD: www.myserver.com/
Your SHOUTcast service provider may give you slightly different information.
- Port - Select a port to connect to the SHOUTcast server on. This is usually 8000. If you cannot connect on port 8000, contact your SHOUTcast hosting provider or system administrator for the correct number.
- Password - This is the connection password. You should have received this when you set up your hosting account or SHOUTcast server.
- Listening URL - This is the URL that your audience will connect to.
GOOD: http://www.myserver.com:8000/listen.pls
GOOD: http://www.myserver.com:8000/mylogin/
BAD: listen.pls
BAD: www.myserver.com
- Show your web radio station in ALSong broadcasts - Check this to display your web radio station in the "ALSong On-Air" on the Song Box.
Broadcast Info: This information is what your listeners will see.
- Stream Title - This corresponds to the "Stream Title" in a web radio server. Sometimes this will be formatted.
- Stream URL - This is an Internet address of your choosing. You can point it to your own web site or blog.
- Current Song - Check Auto to display the name of whatever song is currently playing, or uncheck auto and enter a name for your web radio show segment.
- Description - Enter a description for your web radio station. Various web radio servers, clients, or web sites may or may not display this.
