Duplicate Files

To avoid being prompted for every duplicate file (files with the same name), check the Duplicate Files checkbox and select the appropriate options.

Extract-Dialog-Duplicate-Files-01

Skip simply skips extracting the file in the archive and preserves the file on disk.

Overwrite replaces the file on disk with the one in the archive. There are 3 options available here:

1. Always
2. If Newer (Update)
3. If Older (Restore)

Overwrite-Drop-Down-01

The "Always" option replaces the file on disk with the one in the archive irrespective of the time stamp.

The "Update" option allows you to keep the newest version of a file.

The "Restore" option is for restoring files from backup archives, and is useful when you want to restore something like a project directory back to a previous known state.

Use Folder Names

If unchecked, the files are extracted into a single folder irrespective of any folders inside the archive. This may result in data loss when the archive is extracted, depending upon whether files in different folders share the same name and overwrite each other. This is useful for dumping all the files in large archives with complex subfolder structures into a single folder for easier browsing. e.g. Imagine 500 folders and subfolder each with 3 files. Is it easier to browse the contents of 1 folder or 500?

Open folder after extracting

Automatically opens a new Explorer window for the folder where files are extracted.

Also see The Extract dialog box for more information.
