The Create new archive dialog box is the primary interface for customizing newly created archives in ALZip. Click on any area of the image for more information on it.
Selecting files to archive
Select the files you want to add to the new archive; the file names will be displayed in the File name dialog option. Type in the name of the new archive or choose a file name and path by clicking the egg icon beside the dialog option.
Choose the type of compression for the new archive. You can choose from among ALZ, ZIP, LZH, CAB, JAR, TAR, TGZ, or BH.
Choose the compression rate. Your options are: Maximum, Normal, Fast, Faster, and No compression. The default is Maximum. Please note that not every compression format offers all of these options.
This is only available for ALZ archives. Determine the size for each spanned archive volume. You can choose from several options or type in a custom volume size. When you create executable files from spanned archives, the first volume needs about 50KB more than the rest, so you'll need to select Leave room for ALZip Self-Extractor option if you want them all to be the same size. This is necessary when you select 1,457,664 from the spanned archive size drop down menu and want to put them on floppy disks. Make sure to enter either "KB" for kilobytes or "MB" for megabytes when you specify a custom size. i.e. Enter "500KB", not "500". The minimum size you can specify is 64KB. There is no maximum size. You can only create spanned archives with ESTsoft's ALZip ALZ format. However, ALZip supports extracting from ACE, ARJ, RAR, and ZIP spanned archives. Caution: For normal 3.5" floppy disks, you have to select the size as 1,457,664 from among the available options. Do not type 1.44MB as it is not 100% accurate.
Include sub-folders If checked, sub-folders and their contents are included. This options is set by default.
Include full path This option includes the absolute path up to where the file is located. For example, if the file you are archiving is in the My Pictures folder on the C drive, the path when extracting will be C:\My Documents\My Pictures\ (on Windows 9x). This option is used to store complete path information. It is not set by default. Delete after archiving
Determines whether to delete all the original files after archiving. Warning: Users should exercise caution with this option. Should an unexpected error occur while archiving, the original files may be deleted and the archive may be corrupted (unusable). In this case, there is no way to recover the deleted files without a special data recovery tool. Leave room for ALZip Self-Extractor
When you first create Spanned archives and later wish to transform them into an executable format using the ALZip Self-Extractor, the first file needs an extra 50KB. If you are creating the archive to fit onto several floppy disks and don't check this option, the first file (which contains the extractor) won't fit. Checking this box ensures that you have the option to make the file a self-extractor later. Add
Click the Add button to complete archiving tasks after setting all the options. If any options are set incorrectly, such having no files selected or entering incorrect file names, an error message is displayed.
Cancels the current task and closes the dialog box.
Displays information on the New Archive dialog box.
Set passwords by clicking the Password button. The Set password dialog box prompts you for a password.
