Selecting folders to extract files into (Extract to)

Select folders for files to be extracted to by typing in the folder name yourself or simply selecting them from the Folders/Drives browser tree. You can also click the pull-down menu to choose from recent folders. Clicking the --> button shows you where the specified folder is in the Folder/Drives tree.

To extract files to a new folder, you can click the New folder button or type in a new folder name.

Folders/Drives

Browse here to select a folder for files to be extracted. Clicking a folder from the tree automatically inserts the folder path into the Extract to pull-down.

Files

Determines whether only the selected files from the ALZip File list will be extracted or all files in an archive file will be extracted. The All files option is active and the Selected files option is inactive when no files are selected from the ALZip File list. When there is a selection, Selected files is active by default.

Duplicate Files

To avoid being prompted for every duplicate file (files with the same name), check the Duplicate Files checkbox and select the appropriate options.

Skip simply skips extracting the file in the archive and preserves the file on disk.

Overwrite replaces the file on disk with the one in the archive. There are 3 options available here:

1. Always
2. If Newer (Update)
3. If Older (Restore)

The "Always" option replaces the file on disk with the one in the archive irrespective of the time stamp.

The "Update" option allows you to keep the newest version of a file.

The "Restore" option is for restoring files from backup archives, and is useful when you want to restore something like a project directory back to a previous known state.

Use folder names

The Use folder names check box determines whether ALZip will use the folder names (also known as path names) stored in the archive. You will probably want to check this option for most extract operations. If this option is checked, any folder names stored in the archive will be appended to the 'Extract to' folder when appropriate. If this option is not checked, all files will be extracted to the same folder, ignoring any folder names in the archive.

Open folder after extracting

The Open folder after extracting check box will let you automatically open the folder with the extracted files. This is a great time saver as you don't have to browse to the newly extracted files.
