Save archive as

Enter the file name of the archive to be created by typing it into the input box. You can enter the path of the new archive by typing it in or by clicking on the egg icon and browsing to where you want the new archive saved.

Archive type

Determine the archive type to be created. It is set to ZIP by default. You can changed the default archive type in the General tab under Options.

egg_violet Compression ratio

This drop-down list determines the compression rate. Your options are: Maximum, Normal, Fast, Faster, and No compression. The default is Maximum. Please note that not every compression format offers all of these options.

egg_violet Spanned archive size

zip-new-spanned-split-multivolume-archive-size_01

This is only available for ALZ archives. Determine the size for each spanned archive volume. You can choose from several options or type in a custom volume size. When you create executable files from spanned archives, the first volume needs about 50KB more than the rest, so you'll need to select Leave room for ALZip Self-Extractor. See Spanned archive size for more information.

You can only create spanned archives in ESTsoft's ALZip ALZ format or ZIP format. However, ALZip supports extracting from ACE, ARJ, RAR, and ZIP spanned archives.

Warning: For normal 3.5" floppy disks, you must select the size as 1,457,664 from among the available options. Do not type 1.44MB as it is not 100% accurate. Do not set an archive size when creating ZIP spanned archives.

egg_violet Folders

zip-new-folder-options_01

Include sub-folders

If checked, sub-folders and their contents are included. This option is set by default.

Include full path

This option includes the absolute (full) path up to where the file is located. For example, if the file you are archiving is in the My Pictures folder, the path when extracting will be \My Documents\My Pictures\ on Windows 9x PCs and \Documents and Settings\<user name>\My Documents\My Pictures\ on Windows NT based computers (NT, 2000, XP, 2003). It is not set by default.

Caution: Depending upon configuration differences on different computers and how you use this option, it may not return the exact results you are expecting. e.g. If Sally is using a Windows 98 computer, and her friend Jake is extracting the file on Windows 2000, then including the full path \My Documents\My Pictures\Isnt-Sally-Pretty.jpg will not have the same effect on Jake's computer as it does on Sally's computer because Jake's "My Documents" folder is in a path something like this: \Documents and Settings\Jake\My Documents\ and so his "My Pictures" folder is in \Documents and Settings\Jake\My Documents\My Pictures\.

In our example above, if Jake browses to his "My Pictures" folder and extract's Sally's archive, the final path and file will be \Documents and Settings\Jake\My Documents\My Pictures\My Documents\My Pictures\Isnt-Sally-Pretty.jpg.

egg_violet Delete after archiving

zip-new-delete-original_01

Determines whether to delete all the original files after archiving.

Warning: Users should exercise caution with this option. Should an unexpected error occur while archiving, like a system crash or power outage, the original files may be deleted and the archive may be corrupted (unusable). In this case, there is no way to recover the deleted files without a special data recovery tool.

egg_violet Leave room for ALZip Self-Extractor

zip-new-room-4-SFX_01

When you first create a Spanned archive and wish to later transform them into an executable format using the ALZip Self-Extractor, the first file needs an extra 50KB. If you are creating the archive to fit onto several floppy disks and don't check this option, the first file (which contains the extractor) won't fit. Checking this box ensures that you have the option to make the file a self-extractor later.

egg_violet Add

zip-new-add-button_01

Click the Add button to complete archiving tasks after setting all the options. If any options are set incorrectly, such as no files selected or incorrectly entered file names, an error message is displayed.

egg_violet Cancel

zip-new-cancel-button_01

Cancels the current task and closes the dialog box.

egg_violet Password

zip-new-password-button_01

Set passwords by clicking the Password button. The Set password dialog box prompts you for a password.
